Remember the last year when Prime Video was serving immensely great content. Sarpatta Parambarai, Drishyam 2, Joji, Malik, Kuruthi and what not!
They were brilliant films which came from the southern part of India. They were not only attracting the viewers of their native language but the whole Indian diaspora to it. It immensely helped Prime Video to gain traction by gaining more subscribers and appreciation.
But now the game seems to be changing. Disney+Hotstar throughout 2020 and 2021 was the fan’s favourite due to Hindi films. A lot of Hindi films like Atrangi Re were directly released on the platform.
Disney+Hotstar realised what they needed to fix and worked on exactly that.
Taanakkaran, the highly celebrated Tamil film was a direct release on Disney+Hotstar. Although Maaran was nothing less than torture, Dhanush’s presence gave a sufficient buzz to the film.
Recently released O2 starring Nayanthara and Meri Awas Suno starring Manju Warrier is another addition to the long list of original programming Disney+Hotstar has.
Now that the streaming giant has lost the IPL rights, it is the best way for them to stay relevant amongst the masses.
Currently, no platform comes close to Disney+Hotstar when it comes to subscribers. But mere dominance isn’t enough as they have to maintain it.
Thus, this strategy by Disney+Hotstar is certainly a great pick for connecting audiences from various regions of the country.
