After stunning the audience with its brutally unpredictable and riveting Season-1 finale, fans of the ‘House of the Dragon’ series are naturally eager for a concrete update on the show’s Season-2, which was renewed just a few days after Season-1 premiere.
As per the latest update (via Deadline), Season-2 of the Golden Globe winning show ‘House of the Dragon’ is expected to make its premiere sometime in the summer months of 2024. Yes, it’s a long wait but the wait should be worth it.
Also, the highly anticipated second season of the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel series will have eight episodes compared to the opening season’s ten episodes. And the fewer episodes strategy is not a cost-cutting, but a story-driven decision taken by the stakeholders.
Moreover, ‘House of the Dragon’ Season-3 has already been mapped out and is soon expected to be greenlit by HBO’s parent company Warner Bros Discovery. Earlier, a part of the show’s story including a major battle scene was supposed to be included in Season-2 itself. But now, that segment is ostensibly being carried forward to Season-3 after brainstorming sessions between showrunner Ryan Condal and George R. R. Martin. However, it is still not confirmed whether ‘House of the Dragon’ will wrap up its story with Season-3 or it will also have a fourth season as well.
The ‘House of the Dragon’ series is based on some segments of George R. R. Martin’s 2018 fantasy novel ‘Fire & Blood’ and the goings-on takes place around two centuries before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’ and revolves around the beginning of the end of House Targaryen. ‘House of the Dragon’ Season-1 is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in India until 31st March after which the show’s streaming home in India is yet to be confirmed. Filming for ‘House of the Dragon S2’ is expected to kick-off shortly in England and later in Spain.
