Although it is still a work-in-progress, Marathi cinema is slowly and steadily gaining more traction with respect to mainstream media, as well as audiences. With recent and upcoming releases like ‘Manvat Murders’ and ‘Paani’, a chunk of viewers are even looking forward to more Marathi-language releases.
Upcoming within the remainder of November are three such titles: the bloody Sharad Kelkar-led ‘Raanti’, ‘Gulaabi’, a feel-good musical drama, as well as ‘Dharmarakshak Mahaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’, a historical period drama.
However, considering the fact that all three titles are slated to release theatrically on the same day, i.e November 22, will either of them succeed in appealing to mainstream viewers? Moreover, all three titles are from entirely different genres, with no overlap whatsoever, let alone for some action elements between the first and the last titles from the aforementioned list.
That being said, this could’ve been a good opportunity for each title to have garnered a significant proportion of viewers respectively, were it not for the same release date. Not only will this force the majority to choose between either of the three, it will also hamper their collective growth, with respect to mainstream media.
Which is to say, if the industry has genre-spanning titles as such being helmed, the best way to ensure that they reach audiences, is by timing their release accordingly!
