The beta version of ZEE5 USA has been up and running in the United States for a week now. Although the official launch of the streaming platform is still weeks away, the OTT is still available to the Americans for USD 6.99 per month and USD 49.99 per year, at this point. So this price point got us thinking – how does ZEE5’s price fare against the rest of its international competition? Meaning, how does the US price of ZEE5 subscription fare against the US prices of all the OTTs currently streaming in India? Let’s find out:
Netflix
Let us start off with the most famous OTT in the market. Netflix doesn’t have a yearly subscription package, but it has 3 versions of the monthly subscription package. The basic package is USD 8.99 and allows only 1 user to watch at a time. The standard and premium packages costs USD 13.99 and USD 17.99 and allows 2 and 4 screens to be used at a time respectively. Moreover, the premium package allows UHD and HD streaming, while the standard one has HD only and the basic package has neither.
Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime has a relatively high price point – USD 12.99 (plus taxes) per month and USD 119 (plus taxes) per annum. But unlike the other OTTs, Amazon Prime provides services other than streaming such as free shipping from their online Amazon store, as well as free Music and other services as well.
Apple TV+
USD 4.99 per month. That’s it. Surprisingly, the cheapest one in the list so far. And there is a ton of original content as well, so feel free to check it out.
Disney+ Hotstar
First off, in the US, Disney+ and Hotstar are two different entities. Hotstar only has an annual subscription package of USD 49.99, while Disney+ has a slightly more expensive monthly and yearly package – USD 7.99 per month and USD 79.99 per year.
Aha Video
We take a look at the Indian OTTs now, and Aha Video is the first one on the list. This Telugu content heavy platform has a monthly subscription available for 7.99 and a yearly subscription for USD 34.99.
Hoichoi
This Indian OTT platform too has roots in the US with its monthly subscription priced at USD 9.99 and yearly subscription priced at USD 49.99.
Neestream
The lowest priced monthly subscription for an OTT (on this list) can be found here USD 3.00. Neestream has an extra 6-month package, besides it annual package and they cost USD 15.00 and USD 25.00 respectvely.
So Zee5’s USD 6.99/ month and USD 49.99/ year looks to be a good price point. Especially since 6 screens can be used simultaneously at the same time. We will now have to wait and see how it will fare against the rest of its competition, with time.
