Francis Galluppi, debut director of the crime thriller ‘The Last Stop in Yuma County’ has recently been tapped to write and direct the next installment in the iconic ‘Evil Dead’ franchise.
In addition to several award-winning shorts, like ‘High Desert Hell’ and ‘The Gemini Project’, the up-and-coming filmmaker will now be seen venturing into the horror genre. Tapping into a storytelling technique that leaves audiences simmering with tension, Galluppi will develop the film for veteran director Sam Raimi and the production company Ghost House Pictures.
Raimi’s cult classic horror franchise dates back to the 1981 film of the same name with Bruce Campbell playing the lead role: a fighter of sinister supernatural entities. The feature grew into a trilogy, also spurring a plethora of other projects.
The most recent, standalone film ‘Evil Dead Rise’ from writer-director Lee Cronin, grossed more than $147 million worldwide last year when it hit theaters via Warner Bros.
Surprisingly, this news comes following the announcement that Sébastien Vaniček, director of the 2023 horror film ‘Infested’, will be directing the next installment in the film franchise. That is to say, not one, but two installments of the series are in the works at the moment!
