How Netflix and Prime Video Are Migrating from the USA…

In this era when American companies are dictating most of the decisions of our day, streaming platforms can’t possibly be an exception. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are two of the biggest OTT platforms headquartered in the USA.

So what’s the biggest market for Netflix?

Of course the US.

What’s the biggest market for Prime Video?

USA? Nah, it is India.

India is a huge market and tapping the population over here is significant for any company that wants to make a global impact. But it is not just about India. It is about decentralisation from the USA that is indeed happening for the sake of it.

How can we say that?

Netflix and Amazon are leading the global streaming market by creating most of their new shows and movies outside the United States. In the first three months of 2024, these two platforms approved over half of the world’s new streaming content.

Netflix was very active. They renewed over 200 new shows and movies, while Amazon approved around 140. This was Netflix’s busiest quarter in three years and a record for Amazon’s Prime Video. Other streaming services like Disney+, Paramount+, and Apple TV+ are nowhere near them.

Netflix and Amazon are investing heavily in international markets. For example, Netflix announced many new projects in the UK, Germany, and Poland. In India, Amazon commissioned a record 37 new titles, focusing on crime and thriller genres. Netflix aims to make India its largest subscriber base in the region. It is pretty difficult looking at the present situation though.

So, can Netflix make India the biggest market in the East? Let’s save that for another article.
