How Prime Video’s Upcoming ‘Citadel’ Connects To Its Indian Counterpart

Prime Video’s new series ‘Citadel‘ is drumming up a lot of buzz on social media, and among fans of streaming entertainment. The espionage thriller starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas premieres on Prime Video worldwide on 28th April, 2023. The first full-fledged teaser-trailer for ‘Citadel’ has amped up excitement for the series manifold.

Citadel stars Richard Madden as international spy agent Mason Kane, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as spy agent Nadia Singh. Stanley Tucci stars as Bernard Orlick, their colleague at the spy agency called Citadel. The series also stars Lesley Manville as Dahlia Archer, Osy Ikhile as Carter Spence, Ashleigh Cummings as Abby Conroy, Roland Møller as Anders Silje, and Caoilinn Springall as Hendrix Conroy.

Interestingly, creators Joe and Anthony Russo have envisaged ‘Citadel’ as a multi-lingual spy thriller, spanning continents and cultures, with spinoff series set in India, Italy and Mexico. The makers want Citadel to be a global franchise, with local productions, across countries, that build back to an inter-connected storyline—a first-of-its-kind innovation in storytelling. The US version of Citadel will act as the “mothership”, and the local spinoffs will connect back to it in interesting ways.

The question uppermost in the minds of Indian viewers is, how does Citadel connect with the Indian spin-off of the show? Well, we have the answer to your curiosity.

As per Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the Indian version of Citadel will act as the origin story of her character, Nadia Singh and how she goes on to become a high-profile international spy agent. Likewise, the Italian version of Citadel will act as the origin story of another pivotal character in the US version of the series. The various stories are all connected, but take place in different time zones, in local countries speaking local languages.

The Indian version of Citadel stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. It is written by Sita R Menon along with Raj & DK. It is being directed by Raj & DK, and is produced by their company D2R Films, along with Amazon Studios and AGBO. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and David Weil are overseeing production on the Indian Original and all series within the global ”Citadel” universe.

The Italian version of Citadel stars Italian actress Matilda De Angeli, who impressed all and sundry in HBO show, The Undoing. It is being directed by Arnaldo Catinari, from a script written by Alessandro Fabbri.

Citadel premieres on Prime Video worldwide on April 28. It will premiere with two episodes, and subsequent episodes of the 6-episode series will premiere every Friday, until its May 26 finale.
