The godfather of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige, has confirmed that the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder will explore Valkyrie’s bisexuality to new depths. Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is already ruling the New Asgard now. Plus, the actress is ready to portray the first-ever open LGBTQIA character in the history of the MCU.
Thompson shared her working experience with Taika Waititi in a recent interview with The Wrap. The actress revealed that Thor 4’s helmer is looking to explore Valkyrie’s sexuality even further in the upcoming film.
“It’s totally exciting,” said Thompson in her interview. “We talk so much about representation and obviously, in terms of the LGBTQIA community, there’s still so much work to be done. But if you look at the comics in the canon, there are so many queer characters!”
Thompson also unearthed how hard it was for her to display romance towards the same sex. “It’s hard because Taika and I would’ve even liked to go further, but in the context of the movies, there’s only so much we can do,” the actress said.
Valkyrie made her grand live-action debut with Thor: Ragnarok in 2017. Then, she appeared in Avengers: Endgame with the remaining survivors of Asgard. Thor surrenders himself to drinking after failing to stop Thanos from eradicating half of the universe during the final moments of Infinity War. This scenario makes Valkyrie step up and take care of her people. Later, Thor gives her the mantle of the New Asgard’s ruler.
There is also a deleted scene that went viral after Endgame’s release, showing Thor leaning towards Valkyrie to kiss her. But the latter interrupts the God of Thunder and backs off. That scene shows her lack of interest in males.
Thor: Love and Thunder will premiere on July 8 this year with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, and Jeff Goldblum in the cast. Apart from these acting talents, we will witness the Guardians of the Galaxy members, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan with Vin Diesel voicing Groot.
