Mahishmathi was a visually stunning world created by filmmaker SS Rajamouli, that every viewer couldn’t savour enough of. As we all know, filmmakers Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru are working on a Netflix web series, that’ll be a prequel to Baahubali 1 & 2 and explore the backstory of Sivagami. Based on author Anand Neelakantan’s novel, The Rise of Sivagami, a lot is at stake on the series that’ll release on Netflix later this year. But, is the hype worth it at all?
Firstly, The Rise of Sivagami comes nowhere close in terms of the quality writing of Baahubali and is largely driven by the perversion of its characters. The novel didn’t boast of good reviews either and neither was Sivagami’s flashback impactful. When the makers had announced that they would make a web series out of the book, the news created more shock than surprise.
The only hope with the series is the director-duo behind it. Both Praveen Sattaru and Deva Katta are directors known for their unique treatment. However, it remains to be seen, if that alone would be enough to make a good series. Titled Baahubali: Before the Beginning, the web series features Mrunal Thakur, Rahul Bose and Atul Kulkarni in pivotal roles.
