Hulu has cancelled the Stephen King-verse Television series ‘Castle Rock’ after just 2 seasons. The series is distributed around the globe (and in India) by Netflix. This psychological horror anthology web series is inspired by the stories and fictional characters created by Stephen King’s and the show is set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine.
‘Castle Rock’ isn’t the Disney owned streaming service’s (Hulu’s) first cancellation either with ‘High Fidelity’, ‘Harlots’, ‘Future Man’ and ‘Runaways’, among others all getting the axe in recent times. The second season of the series released around Halloween last year and ended it’s 10 episode run in December.
From Warner Bros. TV and exec producers J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, and showrunner-creators Dustin Thomason and Sam Shaw, ‘Castle Rock’ combines the mythological figures of the Stephen King-verse with the intricate story-telling style King is known for. Season 1 focused on a death-row attorney Henry Deaver who returned home to Castle Rock after a mysterious man turned up at the Shawshank State Prison. Season 2 focused on a younger version of ‘Misery’s’ Annie Wilkins, who was the run from the FBI after commiting a murder and winds up in the titular town with her daughter.
The first season starred Andre Holland, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgard, Melanie Lynskey, Scott Glenn, Jane Levy and Terry O’Quinn. The second season starred Lizzy Caplan, Tim Robbins, Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi, and Matthew Alan. The cancellation announcement has come out at around a year after the second season had dropped.
We hope that this lesser known, under-appreciated cult-classic gets picked up by another network or an OTT streaming service. Seasons 1 and 2 of ‘Castle Rock’ can be viewed on Netflix for the Indian audience.
