The film earned a whopping amount of Rs. 160 million and became the highest grossing movie for the year. It recieved 17 Filmfare nominations that year, and won 7 awards amongst them. Also, the movie went on to win four National Film Awards for Best Production Design, Best Music Direction, Best Choreography and Best CInematography.
Not only was the movie a superhit, the soundtrack of the movie is considered one of the best till date in Bollywood. With songs like “Chand Chupa Badal Mein”, “Nimbooda”, “Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan” and others went on to become major hits. The soundtrack has received a 10/10 from Planet Bollywood, which makes it the only movie to receive such a rating till this date. The soundtrack had lyrics by Mehboob and music by the legendary Ismail Darbar. The soundtrack became the year’s no. 1 selling soundtrack, along with the movie becoming the biggest hit for that year.
Many mention that they went in expecting phenomenal romance between Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai’s character which of course was there, but the character that Ajay Devgn bowled over everyone by the end of the movie, as he selflessly agrees to send off his love away to the person she actually loves. This movie is without doubt one of the best love triangles with absolute true portrayal of love, emotions and family relationships.
To celebrate the 22 years of this great movie, Ajay Devgn today shared some unseen photos from back then that was with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai, along with Bhansali. He in his tweet thanked fans and felt humbled for the love they showered on him, the team and the movie.
