A step whose time has come! The Information & Broadcasting Ministry of India has pulled out all the stops to institute a new category of award at the prestigious International Film Festival Of India. The new category of award to make its debut at the next International Film Festival Of India is the Best Indian Web Series Award.
The I&B Ministry is super keen on including an award for the Best Web Series in India starting from the coming edition of the IFFI, which is the 54th edition of the festival, to be held in Goa from 20th to 28th November 2023. The government had earlier announced 25th August 2023 (until 6:00 PM) as the last date for submitting entries for the first ever Best Web Series Award at IFFI. But the Information And Broadcasting Ministry has now extended the deadline for the submission of entries for the award uptil 4th September, 2023.
OTT platforms, producers and filmmakers can now submit the hard copy of the web series for perusal, until 12th September, 2023. A separate jury will evaluate the entries for the Best Indian Web Series than the jury that will evaluate the feature films category at the International Film Festival Of India.
Original Indian web series in all Indian languages are eligible to apply for the Best Indian Web Series Award at the 54th IFFI Awards. The only contention is that all episodes of the web series must have released in the time period from 1st January 2022 to 31st December 2022.
