IC-814: Govt Demands Explanation from Netflix!

Very recently we wrote a report on how IC-814 has landed in a controversy due to two hijackers being depicted as Bhola and Shankar.

Quite interestingly, we predicted it even before the release that controversies will follow the series after the release as it is an Anubhav Sinha show and he is usually on the radar.

So, the issue of Bhola and Shankar has now been escalated. It is not just limited to a few troll accounts on X but also very real. Because the content head of Netflix India is now answerable. She has to report her explanation to the government.

Yes, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has summoned the content head of Netflix for an explanation.

The show depicts two hijackers going by the name of Bhola and Shankar (both Hindu names) while none of them was a Hindu.

Actually, Bhola and Shankar were the code names of those terrorists and they used to refer to each other through their code names during the entire hijack.

A Union Home Ministry statement dated January 6, 2000, said the names of the hijackers were Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Mistri Zahoor Ibrahim and Shakir.

But the last two of the above mentioned hijackers indeed went by the name of Bhola and Shankar during the hijack.

So, Netflix India is just showing the reality according to the press release of the Government of India from 2000. It shouldn’t be a problem for them to justify it.

But, let’s see what really happens.
