Superhit international series ‘Luther’ that first premiered on BBC in 2010 and has completed five seasons since, will now continue as a feature film on Netflix. This move comes under Netflix’s overall pact with Chernin Entertainment that included this summer’s ‘Fear Street’ Trilogy and with their next venture to be Jason Momoa starrer ‘Slumberland’.
‘Luther’ is a multi award winning British crime series created by Emmy award nominee Neil Cross (‘Mosquito Coast’) who will now continue as writer for the film version on Netflix. It will star Grammy, Tony, Emmy Winner and Two-time Academy Award Nominee Cynthia Erivo (‘Harriet’), Emmy Award Nominee Andy Serkis (‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’) and Golden Globe Nominee Idris Elba returning in titular role.
The series has been a hit around the world and this is evident from the number of adaptations it has had. Until now ‘Luther’ has been made into American, Russian, Korean and French versions. Moreover, it’s Indian adaptation titled ‘Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness’ starring Ajay Devgn is under development and will launch on Disney+ Hotstar soon.
Elba received great acclaim for ‘Luther’ and won two Golden Globes and a Royal Television Society best actor award for his performance in the titular role.
Emmy Award Nominee Jamie Payne will direct what will be an epic continuation of the Luther saga reimagined for film. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready for Chernin Entertainment, Neil Cross and Idris Elba will produce ‘Luther’ film.
Executive producers for the film are Dan Finlay for Chernin Entertainment; Priscilla Parish for BBC Studios and Kris Thykier. ‘Luther’ will be produced in association with BBC Studios.
