Project Power, Netflix’s latest sci-fi action thriller, has powered its way to the top of the Netflix Top Ten in all countries across the globe that stream Netflix. Except five countries. And guess what, India happens to be one of the only five countries where Project Power is not at Number One in the Netflix Top Ten. For information sake, Project Power is at Number Two in the Netflix Top Ten, in all these five countries.
This anomaly is not because we Indians don’t like action thrillers – in fact, it’s just the opposite. Action thrillers are the most popular film genre in India, just like they are for the rest of the world. Give us a good action thriller over other movies, and we’re happy.
No, the reason for Project Power not attaining pole position in Netflix’s Top Ten in India is coz we love a good patriotic movie over everything else. Especially when the Indian Independence Day falls this week. So of course, the Netflix Top Ten Number One position in India has to be claimed by none other than Gunjan Saxena The Kargil Girl. Starring Janhvi Kapoor as the titular Gunjan Saxena, the first female Indian Air Force officer in India to get the distinction of flying into a live combat war zone in the Kargil War.
Interestingly, three other countries where Project Power is not at the top ten on Netflix are all Asian countries – Japan, Philippines and Singapore. Turkey is the sole country outside of Asia to have Project Power at Number Two.
Project Power is a high octane action-packed sci-fi thriller, starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as men on a mission – they have to stop a gang with a sinister plan to cause mayhem in society and rule mankind with the help of little power pills. These pills grant the user five minutes of superhuman power – enough to make them execute devastating criminal acts.
Project Power is streaming globally on Netflix since 14th August.
