Indian Government to Continue Status-Quo for Cinemas

The government of India had clarified that there is no further relief to the cinemas in the Unlock6 which will come into effect from November 1st. The cinemas across the country were allowed to open from October 15th with 50% occupancy. The Government confirmed that this would continue until November 30th.

Even though the cinemas were permitted to operate, several state governments did not allow the theaters to re-open. The Trade will be hoping that there will be a uniform policy across the country at least now. Across the industries, not even a single notable film announced its arrival in the given circumstances.

The trade hoped that at least 75% occupancy will be allowed ahead of the Diwali season but that is not the case to be. A few industries are already assuming that 2020 is more or less over for them and are planning for Sankranthi and Republic Day Release. From the South, several films have already announced their arrivals in January. It has to be seen if this will mean more films especially those from Bollywood taking the OTT route in the coming days. All eyes are on Bollywood biggies – Ranveer Singh’s 83 and Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi now.
