A New York based organization called Cinema Eye Honors is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the best non-fiction documentary films and series every year. And the nominations for the next edition of the Cinema Eye Honors have now been announced. Last year, Shaunak Sen’s widely acclaimed and gripping documentary film ‘All That Breathes’ had won the ‘Outstanding Non-Fiction Feature Film’ award at Cinema Eye.
And in case you are wondering which Indian film has been recognized this time by Cinema Eye Honors for the 2024 edition, let us inform you that the Indian documentary film ‘While We Watched’ featuring Ravish Kumar, which is set amidst the backdrop of Indian media and journalism, has been named in ‘The Unforgettables’ award category. This category celebrates the collaboration between filmmakers and the participants in front of the camera.
Helmed by Vinay Shukla (Director – An Insignificant Man), Ravish Kumar and his documentary ‘While We Watched’ is among the fifteen names which have been mentioned by Cinema Eye as the first named honorees for the 2024 awards. Besides, ‘The Unforgettables’ list also includes popular international films such as the Oscar 2024 contender ‘American Symphony’, ‘The Pigeon Tunnel’ based on former British spy David Cornwell aka John le Carre, and ‘Back to the Future’ star Michael J. Fox’s documentary ‘Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie’, amongst others.
‘While We Watched’ is a 94-minute documentary film which focuses on veteran reporter Ravish Kumar and chronicles his working days as he navigates through various challenges in the field of journalism. The film had won awards at the reputed Toronto International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival. ‘While We Watched’ currently holds 90% critics’ score on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes based on 21 reviews. As of now, it’s not streaming anywhere on Indian OTT.
