Indian OTT Films Make A Mark: Selected For Prestigious Shanghai Film Festival

In a proud moment for India, several phenomenal films will be premiering at the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival set to be held from July 25th to August 2nd, 2020.

The films include ‘Section 375’, ‘Article 15’, ‘Raahgir’, ‘Bombay Rose’, ‘Pareeksha: The Final Test’ and ‘Cargo’. Short film ‘Salana Jalsa (Annual Day)’ from Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute has also been selected for the Golden Goblet award.

Arati Kadav’s ‘Cargo’ and Indraneil Roychowdhury’s ‘Mayar Jonjal’ are competing in the Asian New Talent award category. While Rajat Kapoor’s ‘RK/R Kay’ will screen in The Belt and Road Film Week of the festival.

‘Pareeksha: The Final Test’ director Prakash Jha said, “It’s a great honour for our film, Pareeksha to have its international premiere at one of the biggest and most prestigious film festivals in South Asia. We are delighted that the festival is taking place physically and our film will actually be screened in theatres.”

More than 320 films will be premiering at the festival on online platforms as well as outdoor venues out of which 232 will be making their Chinese or world premiere at the festival.

The festival won’t conduct ceremonies for the Golden Goblet award or the Asian New Talent award this year due to the safety measures in place.

The film festival was postponed from its original date of June 8th so that it could be held both physically and online instead of completely virtually so as to boost the industry’s confidence.

Out of this selection, ‘Pareeksha’ is all set to premiere on streaming platform Zee5 on August 6th and ‘Bombay Rose’ will stream on Netflix soon.
