The OTT industry is getting bigger. Needless to say, the impact of OTT has significantly decreased in the last one year as there are many series that simply go unnoticed by the audience. But, there are series like Farzi and Rocket Boys that are absolutely great not only in terms of quality but also reception.
So in the next 5 years, the Indian OTT industry is eyeing to become double its current value by touching $10 Billion.
This was acknowledged in an event that was graced by the representatives of OTT platforms and the secretary of the Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting.
Apurva Chandra from the Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting promoted a situation where the OTT industry works solely with self regulated content. However, series like Rana Naidu are forcing the ministry to consider bringing regulations on the OTT industry.
Chandra stated that a National Broadcasting Policy is being developed to consolidate the fragmented industry. It would also keep in the interest the issues of conflicting parties.
But these interests and visions can be manifested only if piracy is stopped. Sadly, piracy is too big an issue to ignore.
Chandra stated, “The new Cinematograph Bill that underway seeks to protect the entertainment industry from piracy. We are ready to take action against not only those who record content illegally but even those who are transmitting it online. The websites which stream pirated content will be blocked.”
Let’s hope that piracy is stopped and that helps in the development of the digital entertainment industry.
