Indian OTT United; At Getting Abused For The Kerala Story

In recent months, the Hindi film industry has witnessed a storm of controversy surrounding the blockbuster film “The Kerala Story.”

Directed by Sudipto Sen, the movie delves into a sensitive and polarizing topic, depicting the alleged conversion of innocent Hindu girls to Islam and their subsequent involvement in terrorism. The film has garnered both supporters and detractors, leading to a heated debate on social media platforms and widespread discussion among the public.

Since its theatrical release, “The Kerala Story” has faced significant backlash and allegations of promoting Islamophobia. Critics argue that the film propagates harmful stereotypes and fuels religious tensions. On the other hand, some individuals have praised it for raising awareness about sensitive issues that they believe are often brushed under the carpet.

One consequence of the controversy surrounding the film is the lack of interest from major OTT platforms to acquire its digital rights.

Platforms like Netflix India, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar, and Zee5 are not clear about purchasing the film for streaming. This decision has further fueled the ongoing debate, with supporters of the film accusing the industry of bias and attempting to suppress the director’s vision.

The film’s director, in response to the digital rights snub, has alleged that the industry has ganged up against him.

The refusal of major OTT platforms to stream “The Kerala Story” has sparked outrage among a section of the audience. Online platforms have become battlegrounds for heated debates and trolls, with users venting their frustrations by abusing and targeting the aforementioned streaming services.

Interestingly, it is not just one OTT platform but all of them getting abused due to the same fold. Users are indiscriminately cursing all the platform.
