Indian OTTs Can Dominate International Market: Hotstar Proves

If you think about the streaming platforms then it is largely the American companies which dominate the International dynamics. Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max and more are extremely popular outside the USA as well.

Although HBO Max isn’t available in extremely important markets, its content is always consumed via other platforms.

But it must not be entirely American companies dominating the market. Thus India based OTTs must make some moves too. You might be surprised to know that Zee5 serves in over 190 countries including the USA.

But it doesn’t even dominate the Indian market let alone the foreign ones.

But Hotstar or let’s say Disney+Hotstar is much more powerful. The dominance it has in the Indian market is unparalleled. The number of subscribers it has outnumbers all other platforms put together.

The platform offers huge content at a very reasonable price and perhaps that’s the simple reason behind it being so powerful.

But it’s not true just for India now. Even in Indonesia, Disney+Hotstar is working terrifically. Out of a total of 17.4 million accounts which are subscribed to any OTT, Disney+Hotstar accounts for 5 million of them.

It is just behind Vidio which is the leading OTT platform in Indonesia. Disney+Hotstar is already way ahead of Netflix and many others.

The whole point behind this story is to ensure that Indian OTTs do have a great chance to make a brand for themselves. Disney+Hotstar is performing way better than Disney+ by itself and it is a strict lesson for other international streamers who take the Indian market lightly.

In South East Asia, Indonesia is the biggest and most competitive market and Disney+Hotstar’s success definitely means something.
