Netflix India still has a long distance to go to emerge as the top OTT platform in the country. Yes, the streaming service has a good number of subscribers in India. But everyone knows that Indian OTT shows are not responsible for this situation. Thanks to Umbrella Academy, Stranger Things, Money Heist: Korea, and Bollywood releases like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Anek for attracting a satisfying viewership in the country for the streaming service in the last few days. However, the latest trailer of Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi has received a strong positive response from the viewers. Will this documentary become one of the greatest shows in Netflix India’s arsenal? Why does the OTT platform need this show? Let’s find out!
The upcoming Netflix India documentary project, Indian Predator will hit the streaming platform on July 20 and has Ayesha Sood at the helm. The revolves around a serial killer who left the decapitated bodies of his victim at the gate of Tihar Jail and various other places in Delhi. Also, he used to leave notes for the cops, challenging them to find him. Plus, we will see interviews of those officials who were involved in solving this gruesome case.
Many reports have claimed that the story of real-life serial killer Chandrakant Jha has been depicted in the show. Although, the makers are yet to confirm this. Jha received the death penalty in 2013.
Indian Predator looks like a gripping docu-thriller. All we can do is expect that the makers have played their cards right with this one. Yes, the story is heinous and disturbing. However, it may end up luring a good number of viewers as a large portion of viewers digs shows or documentaries based on real-life crime cases.
Netflix US has bestowed plenty of outstanding crime docuseries like Our Father, Misha and the Wolves, Rolling Thunder Revue, The Sparks Brothers, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, and many more. Netflix India can start doing the same with the help of Ayesha Sood’s upcoming documentary project. It is not like the streaming platform does not have compelling Indian docuseries. It is just that they are not without their flaws and their flaws are too big to be ignored. Furthermore, the slate of Netflix India has way too many crime dramas or thrillers. That’s why Indian viewers need a project like Indian Predator. The forthcoming documentary may serve as a new take on the crime genre.
“As a filmmaker, I am keen to learn something from every project that I develop, and understanding this story and the investigation that it ensued, led me to discover a lot about human psychology and the justice system as well! I look forward to presenting through this docu-series on Netflix, a case that should have rocked the country but was missed,” Sood said in a statement.
The director’s above-mentioned statement shows that the documentary will also explore “a lot about human psychology”. Figuring out the mentality of criminals is very important before catching them. It is something that Indian crime shows should show apart from completely focusing on the cruel or sick deeds of the criminals and their aftermaths. Furthermore, the cinematography looks amazing.
Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi certainly looks promising. Let’s see how it performs after its premiere on July 20 on Netflix India. Stay tuned for more updates.
