Indian WWE Fans Are Left Hanging In Uncertainty Between Netflix and SonyLIV

WWE, whether called pro wrestling or sports entertainment, has been a staple of entertainment for Indian fans for years. With the shift from linear cable to OTT platforms, WWE also moved in that direction. Initially streaming on SonyLIV, WWE’s weekly shows and premium live events were available to Indian audiences.

Earlier this year, WWE struck a monumental $5 billion deal with Netflix, granting the OTT giant rights to stream WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night Raw, in the USA. However, the true benefits of this deal lie in the international market.

Netflix will become the home for WWE in markets including Canada, the U.K., Latin America, and parts of Asia. Netflix’s content lineup will encompass everything from weekly shows like Raw and SmackDown to premium live events such as WrestleMania or SummerSlam, making it the undisputed platform for WWE content.

For Indian audiences, however, there is still uncertainty. There have been no updates regarding whether WWE will continue on SonyLIV, which has been streaming WWE content since 2002. In 2020, SonyLIV extended its five-year contract, which expires in 2025 — precisely when Netflix and WWE are set to begin their partnership.
