With the Indian audiences rapidly shifting their loyalty towards digital content instead of the traditional medium of television, the big companies have had to switch gears to cater to the increasing demand for the video OTT (over-the-top) services. While the Indian video OTT industry is still at a nascent stage, it is fast growing and is expected be among the top 10 global markets by 2022.
This has had quite an effect on the entertainment industry. With people, especially youngsters, consuming digital content, companies like Netflix and Prime Video have taken stock and tried to introduce more local content to meet the demands of Indian audiences. In fact, Netflix has just announced 10 original Indian films to be released over the next 18 months.
Even the hotshots of Indian entertainment industry are looking to cash in on the action. Case in point is Shah Rukh Khan whose next venture is a web series starring Bobby Deol. Even the renowned actor Akshay Kumar has signed on to star in a multi season web series titled “The End.”
This clearly shows that while the traditional Television content has not outlived its importance, the Indian audiences are clearly enjoying the more varied digital content!
