After garnering several accolades globally, ‘RRR’ had once again made Indian cinema proud after winning the coveted Golden Globes trophy for the ‘Best Original Song’ category. However, it couldn’t win the ‘Best Non-English Language Film’ Golden Globe. But the bittersweet loss has now somewhat been compensated.
Because S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ has just bagged the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ award at the 2023 edition of the Critics Choice Awards, which honors the best of the best in the fields of films and television.
And in doing that, ‘RRR’ has beaten its foreign language counterparts namely ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, ‘Argentina 1985’, ‘Bardo’, ‘Close’ and ‘Decision to Leave’. Not just that, ‘RRR’ has also won ‘Best Song’ award for Naatu Naatu at the Critics Choice Awards 2023. So, it’s a double delight for Indian movie buffs.
Similarly, the ‘Best Foreign Language Series’ award has been given to Apple TV Plus’ ‘Pachinko’.
The Critics Choice Awards for the ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’ have been bagged by Brendan Fraser and Cate Blanchette for their roles in ‘The Whale’ and ‘TAR’, respectively.
And the ‘Best Picture’ award has been won by ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’. Recent Golden Globe winner Ke Huy Quan has won the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award for the multiverse action film, which has also bagged the ‘Best Editing’, ‘Best Original Screenplay’, and the ‘Best Director’ Critics Choice Awards.
Other major winners at the 28th Critics Choice Awards include Bob Odenkirk winning the ‘Best Actor – Drama Series’ award for his titular performance in ‘Better Call Saul’. Even ‘Better Call Saul’ has been adjudged as the ‘Best Drama Series’. Moreover, Giancarlo Esposito also took home the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ trophy for the show. These award wins were long due and well deserved for ‘Better Call Saul’.
And the ‘Best Actress – Drama Series’ award has been bagged by Zendaya for ‘Euphoria’. Further, ‘Abbott Elementary’ has won the ‘Best Comedy Series’ award and veteran actor Jeff Bridges has been bestowed the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.
Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ and HBO Max’s ‘Harley Quinn’ have bagged the ‘Best Animated Feature’ and ‘Best Animated Series’ awards, respectively.
Moreover, James Cameron’s blockbuster ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ has unsurprisingly won the ‘Best Visual Effects’ award at the Critics Choice Awards 2023.
And Netflix’s ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, directed by Rian Johnson, has won the ‘Best Comedy’ and ‘Best Acting Ensemble’ Critics Choice Awards 2023.
