Coronavirus Immunization has begun and people across the globe are eagerly waiting to get back to their normal lives. One important thing to look forward to after the vaccine is how the theatrical business and OTT will sustain during the normalcy. Ornmax Media is India’s only specialized media consulting firm that is into tracking, testing & forecasting-based consulting for films, television, OTT & more. Shailesh Kapoor, Founder & CEO, Ormax Media gave some interesting insights over this topic in an interview.
“The normalcy in theatrical business will depend on how the vaccine rolls out. Pre-COVID levels will not be restored at least till mid-2021. OTT will be on a roll in 2021 as well but certainly not on par with 2020. However, the growth will be still as high as 35-40 percent,” he said.
“OTT will need to target the smaller towns for further growth. For that, they should curb the widespread piracy of SVOD content. The theater audience will return with a bang when the normalcy returns but that will not threaten OTT. Single Screens may barely survive this Pandemic and that may affect India’s theatrical reach in the long run. That is also an opportunity for the OTT to encash. We will get an idea of it only when a big film releases after the normalcy is restored sometime towards the end of this year,” he added.
