After his ALTBalaji outing with Cold Lassi and Chicken Masala, Rajeev Khandelwal is back in the digital space, this time in a short stories anthology, titled ‘Offbeats Season 1’. The first season will comprise of six short stories, each with diverse storylines and actors. The anthology will stream on YouTube, on the official channel of Gorilla Shorts, presenters of the series.
All the six stories are bound together by a common theme – that of offbeatness, as the title of the anthology suggests. A lonely station master looking for love, a sexually-frustrated housewife, an estranged New York-based son who visits his dying father, an army sniper hunting down his target, a woman biker out on a solo trip – each story, along with the characters that populate it, is unique and offbeat.
Another remarkable aspect of the anthology is its music. Each film will be accompanied by a beautiful song sung by acclaimed singers such as Papon, Salim Merchant and others.
Besides Khandelwal, the anthology will feature Namit Das, Nitish Pandey, Flora Saini, Smita Jaykar, Bhuvan Arora, Jayaprakash Kuloor, Yusuf Hussain, among others. All the six short stories of Offbeats Season 1 have been directed by Ambar Chakravarty, adman and filmmaker.
While all the other shorts are in a mix of Hindi and English, there’s one short in Malayalam. The Malayalam short film is directed by Ambar Chakraborty, along with acclaimed Malayali director, Ajay Govind.
The Malayalam film is a comedy titled Shavarasam, featuring actor Jayaprakash Kuloor.
The first film streams today on YouTube. Titled “Station Master Phool Kumar”, it features popular actor Namit Das. Rajeev Khandelwal will star in the second film, His Master’s Voice, about the estranged son and dying father.
Offbeats Season 1 premieres on YouTube on 24th January 2020.
