Invincible Creator Robert Kirkman Leaks Steven Yeun’s Major MCU Role

MCU’s Thunderbolts is set to come out in 2025. And one of the film’s major characters has been revealed by ‘Invincible’ creator Robert Kirkman. It seems like the rumours were true. Steven Yeun will be playing Sentry in the upcoming Jake Schreier directional.

It was known that Yeun would be playing a highly super-powered character in Thunderbolts. But no one knew which Marvel character the actor would portray in the film.

In his recent talk with comic artist David Finch, Kirkman disclosed, “My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie.”

Kirkman also revealed how Yeun used to joke with him about playing “yellow and blue” superheroes only, pointing straight towards his role in Prime Video’s Invincible series.

Marvel is yet to make an official announcement about Steven Yeun’s major role in Thunderbolts. But we can assume that Robert Kirkman has told us the truth.

We do not know how Sentry fits into ‘Thunderbolts’. Will Steven Yeun’s version of the character have a cameo appearance in the film? Or is he playing the project’s primary antagonist? We will find out soon.

Created by the duo of Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee, Sentry (aka Robert “Bob” Reynolds) is a superhero who possesses several superhuman abilities, including speed, strength, and flight. Bob turns into Sentry after ingesting a mysterious serum. In the comics, his serum was a hundred thousand times stronger than the Super Serum used on Captain America. However, Sentry was portrayed as a strong sentient life force in the prominent ‘The Age of the Sentry’ comic book series. Here, he was a refugee who belonged to a different planet. In addition, the character often prohibits himself from using his full might. He has unleashed his abilities only on special occasions in the comics.

If Sentry is part of ‘Thunderbolts’, then MCU fans may witness the character’s malevolent and dark counterpart, Void, as well. It represents only the dark or negative aspects of Sentry’s abilities and psyche. In other words, Void brings chaos and destruction. It shows up whenever Sentry loses control or his mental stability. Yes, this scenario seems a bit far-fetched, considering the tone of ‘Thunderbolts’ and the characters that are a part of it, such as Winter Soldier, Ghost, John Walker (U. S. Agent), Black Widow (Yelena Belova), Red Guardian, and Taskmaster. All these villains turned antiheroes rely more on their physical abilities, ultimately making them ‘no match’ for Sentry’s abilities.

Sentry’s inclusion in Thunderbolts will only make sense if the character gets a cameo appearance (maybe a mid or post-credits scene), which will set the platform for a bigger storyline for the character. Stay tuned for more updates.
