The ever-charismatic Robert Downey Jr. is all set to appear as the mighty Doctor Doom in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. At this point, we don’t know anything about the movie’s plot. Marvel has a great track record when it comes to safeguarding the storylines of its projects before their worldwide releases.
However, we also don’t know anything about RDJ’s take on Doom. What traits will this new MCU character possess? That remains a mystery. But we do have some updates about how the Ironheart Disney+ series could set up Avengers: Doomsday.
In a conversation with Deadline, Ryan Coogler, one of the executive producers of Ironheart, hinted that the MCU series offers “a great sample” of what viewers can expect from Doctor Doom in the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday.
Check out Coogler’s comments below:
“We didn’t know it was going to be Doctor Doom and the Avengers when we first started, but he’s a guy in publishing who’s most famous for fusing technology and magic, so it’s a great sample of things that are to come in probably what’s going to be the biggest movie in Marvel history.”
We’ve already seen Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) in recent Ironheart trailers, using magic-infused, Iron Man-like suits to take on enemies. At some point in the show’s storyline, Riri will succeed in creating a suit that also incorporates magic.
It seems like the Ironheart creators have drawn inspiration from Doctor Doom’s comic book portrayal, where he boldly fuses magic with technology.
Ironheart could set the stage for what kind of powers to expect from Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. A key element of Marvel’s new series is the blend of magic and technology—a concept central to Doom’s character in the comics. This connection suggests a compelling thematic link between the series and Doom.
Audiences could get a taste of this strategic fusion in Ironheart before fully experiencing Doom’s abilities in Avengers: Doomsday. Ultimately, a proper portrayal of Doctor Doom necessitates a masterful blend of both magic and advanced technology. Stay tuned for more updates.
