The thought of sequels in Malayalam filmography is becoming notable in keeping up its reception with the first installment. Be it a success or failure, a second chance will sometimes pave the way for a deserving win. But what if an effort, that is highly anticipated by the audience, is delayed for unknown reasons? Will it become a myth or a reality?
‘Big-B’ is a 2007 Indian Malayalam-language neo-noir action thriller film directed by Amal Neerad in his directorial debut. The flick is bankrolled by Shahul Hameed Marikar for Marikar Films along with Anto Joseph for A J Film Company Productions respectively.
Albeit a failure at the box office, the movie had a cult fan-following audience due to its styles of conception and frame, which could break the conventional structure in the filmmaking of the Malayalam industry. The story of the movie is inspired by John Singleton’s Four Brothers, and writer Unni R penned the screenplay as well as the dialogues for the flick.
The updates regarding the second part of the movie, which is tentatively named ‘Bilal’ are getting renewed and are again repeated despite any official starting of shoot schedules and other progress.
As per the viewpoints of the audience, the project would explore more of the titular character’s journey expecting a strong backstory along with a much bigger canvas that can add commercial value for the effort.
Furthermore, this sequel will be the most-anticipated Malayalam film in the upcoming year and is expected to unabashedly cross its boundaries.
However, the possibility of such a sequel stands still as the director is trying to fulfill his other commitments which are reported to be working with top actors in the industry. Also, there was speculation that the movie might begin shooting in the 2019-20 period when the pandemic made it unfortunate.
The movie is supposed to be a different story with the same character where the chances of reprisal for its other characters seem difficult, and is hoped to conceive the effort in such a way that it should be able to please the mass audience along with convincing the relevance of the narrative. Stay tuned in Binged for more updates regarding ‘Bilal’.
