There’s definitely a strong case for Apple TV+ becoming a new hub for sci-fi shows. After fumbling the bowl with Jason Momoa’s ‘See’, the streaming platform bounced back hard with ‘For All Mankind’, and later strengthened its sci-fi vault with outstanding entries like ‘Foundation’, ‘Severance’, ‘Silo’, ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’, ‘Constellation’, ‘Invasion’, and more. And the arrival of Joel Edgerton’s new sci-fi show on Apple TV+ further solidifies the platform’s ambition to become a go-to spot for sci-fi fans. Yup, we are talking about ‘Dark Matter’.
‘Dark Matter’ has received strong reviews from critics, with special praise directed at Edgerton’s compelling performance, and the series’ mind-bending and twisting narrative. Viewers have certainly loved the show, as reflected by its latest ranking on Reelgood’s streaming popularity chart. During May 9 – 15, ‘Dark Matter’ earned the top spot on the chart, beating the likes of Bodkin, Fallout, and Baby Reindeer, in the United States.
Apple TV+ is way behind its competitors, such as Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video, in terms of competition and global presence. However, the streaming platform has made a name for itself by bestowing top-quality sci-fi shows to viewers. In addition, Apple TV+ is not following Netflix’s footsteps by cancelling fan-favourite entries. For instance, the streaming platform recently renewed ‘For All Mankind’ for Season 5. In addition, ‘Silo’ and ‘Foundation’ will return for Season 2 and Season 3, respectively. Moreover, the platform has greenlighted the second season of ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’.
We do not have official confirmation on Season 2 of Dark Matter yet. Given the show’s popularity, Apple TV+ will likely want to reap the benefits with a renewal. Stay tuned for more updates.
