The condition of the country is horrifying as of now and it should be. Given so many cases of heinous crimes against women, it is high time we rethink the society we have made. Amid all these anxieties and rethinkings, there is a new demand. This demand comes directly from the women lawyers of the Supreme Court of India. They are demanding that there should be a complete ban on the porn and obscene content on the OTT platforms.
While porn is an absolutely evil thing that has severely damaged the way people perceive sex, it is simply impossible to ban that. You see, nobody can ban porn. A government, a telecom operator etc can only ban URLs. What these porn websites do is create different URLs that are similar to their main one and this causes people to easily find it.
Obscenity too is a really difficult thing to define. Who and how can one define obscenity?
Thus, the demand is just but not really feasible. Plus, we need to acknowledge that India is one of the largest consumers of porn. There are n ways to oversmart a ban and they will. Let’s try to implement some practical changes and that includes the mentality through which we raise the boys.
