Is ‘Ice Age 6’ Disney's Attempt To Defrost A Crappy Animated Franchise

Oh, no! Not again! Actor John Leguizamo, the voice of Sid the Sloth, has revealed that Ice Age 6 has entered the developmental stage at Disney. The last entry in this once promising-turned-crap animated franchise came out in 2016, Ice Age: Collision Course, which was clearly a disaster. But people love the franchise! And we all know how greedy Disney is! The conglomerate must have realised that there is still some life left in this $3.2 billion animated franchise. After Collision Course, we got a not-so-great spinoff flick, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. And let’s not forget about Ice Age: Scrat Tales, a Disney+ series so popular, that people are still debating whether it actually exists.

After critics butchered Ice Age: Collision Course, director Michael Thurmeier announced on Twitter in 2017 that he wanted to make a sixth film to redeem the franchise. He mentioned that he was interested in bringing back Roshan, the human baby from the first film. Really? How original?

Does Disney need Ice Age 6? Hell yes, that studio knows how to sniff money. But do we need it? Hell, nah! Collision Course was the final nail in the franchise’s coffin. Yes, the first Ice Age movie was a charming and heartwarming, albeit predictable, animated adventure. But that was 22 years ago! Now, the franchise is in shambles. It lost its way a long time ago. The characters, humor, and storylines became less interesting and enjoyable with each new Ice Age movie. The last entry, Collision Course, was nothing except a loud, crappy, and laugh-starved cash grab that shamelessly exploited its target audience.

Ice Age 6 already sounds like a terrible idea that will only serve to further corrode the franchise’s reputation (what’s left of it). There is a limit to how much you can milk a hit franchise. But it seems like Disney just doesn’t give a damn. Stay tuned for more updates.
