Is “I’m Just Ken” Robbed By Barbie’s Another Song?

This category is really special for Indians; we did have some sweet victories in this category, but the same can’t be said for “I’m Just Ken,” as it manages to taste a major defeat on the biggest night for entertainment, and that too by a song from the same film.

Now, in all major awards, the Original Song category has been a competitive one, but “I’m Just Ken” did manage to be victorious in some shows, and tonight wasn’t the night; after all, he is definitely just a Ken and not a winner.

The category always carries some controversies, and sometimes, it isn’t always about the best and strongest songs, but one which has been advertised really well and not always about the actual ‘Best Song.’

So, there was definitely a slight chance that “I’m Just Ken” could get the upper hand, but it is now defeated by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s phenomenal song “What Was I Made For?”, a song that echoes the battles and questions of Barbie. Even Gerwig pointed it out as “Barbie’s heart song.”

Now, was it a robbery after all?

Personally, no. If the competition is great and grand enough, there is no shame in defeat, and the audience already had the chance to see the performance of “I’m Just Ken” on stage; that’s no less than the win.

Also, credit must be given where it’s due; Billie Eilish became the youngest to win two Oscars in history, and that too at just 22. Previously, she won for the title track of “No Time to Die,” quite the win for Eilish after all.
