Janhvi Kapoor’s debut film ‘Dhadak’ was a box office hit but she has been struggling for that breakout role ever since. Many believe ‘Ulajh’ could be that film for her after seeing the trailer where she plays the role of a young IFS officer whose loyalties are under question.
For that the film needs to be attractive enough to pull the audiences into theatres. Not saying that it isn’t but the pre release excitement does not reflect in advance bookings for ‘Ulajh’.
‘Ulajh’ isn’t the only one facing this issue, Ajay Devgn and Tabu led ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ is marred by the same problem. So does this mean there’s something fundamentally wrong with these films or is it something external.
Well, it seems to be both. In case of ‘Ulajh’, though the premise looks interesting the moviegoers don’t seem to have much faith in Janhvi Kapoor who has been struggling with recent duds.
On the other hand, both Tabu and Ajay Devgn are bankable stars who have seen success with their recent releases like ‘Crew’, ‘Shaitaan’, ‘Drishyam 2’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’. But still the film is not impressing the viewers or creating any buzz for that matter despite a decent album and that might mostly be because of its depressing theme.
For the external challenges faced by ‘Ulajh’ and ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’, they are releasing just a week after Marvel’s ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ which has taken theatres across the globe by storm. Moreover, with ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ still running strongly in theatres and ‘Stree 2’just a couple of weeks to go, middle class Indian viewers would prefer waiting for that after having watched the global superhero phenomenon that is ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.
