Is JioCinema Bringing New AVOD Model Soon?

Viacom 18 owns JioCinema. And, they are damn serious about the upliftment of JioCinema. For about a year or so, JioCinema was nothing more than a dumping ground for everything that is bad and unwatchable. But with a few series recently, they seem to be making some efforts to elevate the trashy level of content.

Until very recently, JioCinema was free for all Indian content and users needed to pay just for the international content that ranged from Max, Paramount Plus, Warner Bros Discovery and many more.

Just a few months back, they introduced an industry shaking plan that started ad-free from only ₹29/month.

The new plan restricts most of the watchable content on JioCinema that lie under the umbrella of subscription.

But, it looks like JioCinema is looking for an AVOD model just like before. It means that users can watch content for free or even cheaper price if they agree to watch ads.

Why are we saying so?

Viacom18 is strengthening JioCinema just before its upcoming merger with Disney Star. On Friday, Viacom18 announced the addition of three experienced executives to its technology leadership team to enhance JioCinema.

Bharath Ram has been appointed as the Chief Product Officer & Ad Tech Platform Lead. Vijay Sheshadri joins as the Chief Technical Advisor. Shoury Bhardwaj is now the Engineering Leader for App Experience, Search, Recommendations, Data & App Backend Platforms.

More than anyone else, let’s focus on Bharath Ram who specialises in ad tech, ad-revenues and stuff. Naturally, the plans are clear.
