Is Masala the New Saviour of Netflix India?

When the genre of OTT films was evolving then there was a clear divide among the kind of films that would land on OTT and what would be released on the big screens.

But the lines are blurred now. Films like “Three of Us” are coming to the big screens first and those like Jewel Thief are Netflix originals.

The problem is that we have an utter scarcity of creative and experimental films due to this blurring of line. We are not getting enough experiments and that sucks.

Look at Jewel Thief. It has all the ingredients of a blockbuster. The movie features a big cast, the dance routine by Jaideep Ahlawat is already viral and even the trailer is getting highly positive response.

So what’s the problem?

The problem is, such films are made for the theatres. It may fail in the theatres but it will be a big time blockbuster on OTT.

Why?

Simply because Masala attracts the attention of people. Especially when they have not seen it before. The milking of formulaic films has led to a lot of degradation of the quality of the films on OTT and it is pretty evident.

We wish all the very best to Jewel Thief, but our hearts beat for new innovative stories that are rare to find and bold to tell.
