Is Mili A Worthy Watch On Netflix If You’ve Already Seen Helen?

Mili is a survival thriller that tells the story of a girl who gets stuck in a freezer one night and sees no way of coming out of it. It is the remake of a 2019 Malayalam film ‘Helen’ directed by debutant filmmaker Mathukutty Xavier and stars debutant actress Anna Ben in the titular role.

Mili is getting mixed reviews and some people are very impressed with the performance Janhvi Kapoor has given in the movie. Mili too is directed by Muthukutty Xavier and has its music composed by the maestro A. R Rahman himself.

But if you have already seen ‘Helen’, there is absolutely no point in watching Mili again. Despite having a slightly better performance of Jhanvi Kapoor than in her previous movies, there is nothing too special about ‘Mili’ that can make it better than the original one. A. R Rahman’s music is definitely something that adds up, but the beautiful songs do not have much to do in a thriller of this kind.

Mili is a survival thriller and films of this genre work generally on suspense and the fact that it is a remake works against that. Audiences are comparing the film to Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Trapped’. Mili is trending at number 1 on Netflix India right now and it is very visible that despite having mixed reviews, audiences are liking the movie. One big reason for it is that Malayalam movies are not easily available to watch with Hindi audio and audiences of the North belt miss out on some great Malayalam movies for the lack of Hindi dub.

You can watch Mili if you have not seen Helen before, but if you have, it may be just a waste of time as there is no doubt that the original Malayalam movie is way better than the Bollywood adaptation.
