The highly anticipated fantasy series, Rakt Bramhand, from Netflix India, is already in troubled waters before even arriving on the streaming platform. According to online reports, the project is in deep trouble, primarily due to financial woes.
The series comes from the popular director duo, Raj & DK, with helming duties handled by Rahil Anil Barve. Barve is best known for his contributions to Tumbbad.

The financial issues related to Rakt Bramhand first arose out of the water in February this year, when one of the project’s executive producers was accused of significant financial mismanagement, with irregularities unearthed in accounting records. This scenario forced Netflix to stall the production, fire the involved executive producer, and commence a complete and overall financial review.
Nearly four months have passed, and yet there is no word about the series’ production. Now, some reports have disclosed that the show could face cancellation.
Multiple platforms have revealed that Netflix leadership recently met with Raj & DK and a new executive producer, who has a history of collaborating with Aamir Khan and Farhan Akhtar, to discuss the budget of their current project. The original cost projections were apparently much higher than Netflix’s comfort zone, especially given that a significant portion of the already filmed content requires reshooting.
A massive update like this cannot remain hidden, and a noticeable section of Indian OTT viewers have managed to sniff its scent.
Most of them have expressed their dissatisfaction with the new update, given how much Indian viewers love watching projects coming from Raj & DK. The expectations from fans skyrocketed after they came to know about Barve’s addition to the project.
A handful of fans have also questioned Netflix India about when was the last time the platform actually bestowed a good Indian made show for the country’s users.

And they are not wrong to ask a question like that!
It is not a hidden fact that Netflix India’s “A Game” has dropped significantly in recent years. Another surprising fact is that the platform delivered 10 new Netflix India originals in 2023, with titles like The Railway Men, Guns & Gulaabs and more earning mixed-to-positive reception from viewers. However, the number of new originals dropped to only five in 2024.
So far in 2025, we have received four new Netflix India originals. Out of these four, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter has received a decent response from the users. However, we can’t say the same for The Royals.
But the fact of the matter is that Netflix India has been unable to drop a show like Sacred Games and Delhi Crime for a long time now. The platform set the bar way too high with these titles, and has been facing issues since then in reaching these heights.
The case of Rakt Bramhand debacle highlights a serious issue with financial controls and oversight within Netflix India’s production pipeline. Accusations of financial mismanagement suggest a fundamental flaw in their internal processes, leading to stalled productions and wasted resources. This is a red flag for any major production house.
While financial prudence is wise, it raises questions about the platform’s commitment to truly ambitious, large-scale projects, especially when compared to competitors who might be more willing to invest.
As for viewers, they have every right to question Netflix India about this matter. The duo of Raj & DK carries a lot of weight among Indian OTT viewers as their past projects speak for themselves. Which is why the expectations with Rakt Bramhand were really high. It has been a while since Netflix India launched a truly amazing and immersive original series for Indian viewers.
In a highly competitive Indian OTT market with strong players like JioHotstar, ZEE5, Amazon Prime Video, and more (who have their own popular Indian originals), Netflix needs to consistently impress.
