Officially Halloween is on and Its season when movie-buffs would curate horror movie lists and start discovering under-watched horror gems. Every streaming platform has been dropping Halloween specials in the form of originals, movies and shows. Some already released titles include The Midnight Club, Werewolf by Night, The Curse of Bridge Hollow, Hocus Pocus 2 etc and some of the most awaited upcoming titles include Mr Midnight: Beware the Monsters and Cabinet of Curiosities from the auteur Guillermo Del Toro himself.
Scheduled for an October 25 release, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is the most buzzy title of the season so far. This upcoming American Horror anthology streaming television series is based on his short story of the same name. An amalgamation of different sinister stories, the show is all set to offer you a promising Halloween tv season. The series is said to feature eight unique horror stories that challenges and also bends the classical horror genre. Two of the episodes are original works curated by del Toro himself, while the others are written and directed by various other prolific filmmakers.
One of the most prominent reasons why the title is most anticipated is association of Guillermo Del Toro himself. This modern day auteur has redefined boundaries of horror and fantasy with his entire filmography. He brought back gothic horror precisely with films like Crimson Peak. His audacious works like Pan’s Labyrinth, Crimson Peak, The Shape of Water and the latest Nightmare Alley have all have one common element… something loud, fearful, theatric and entertaining. Cabinet of Curiosities trailer passed the vibe-check as well.
The show has eight episodes aka eight sinister stories titled Lot 36, Graveyard Rats, The Outside, The Autopsy, Pickman’s Model, Dreams in the Witch House, The Murmering and The Viewing. Every episode will be introduced by the modern master of gothic horror as well. Another bonus aspect of Cabinet of Curiosities is the fact that its anthology nature would definitely help the audience to pick and choose their favourite sinister stories. Unlike limited series or continuing shows, the narrative doesn’t break audience attention span in anthology format. Nevertheless, Cabinet Of Curiosities is way too hyped this season and lets hope if the show lives up to its hype. Streaming on Netflix from October 25th, 2022. Stay tuned.
