Is Netflix’s Minnal Murali Heading Down The “Red Notice” Path?

There are only hours remaining before Kerala’s first-ever Malayalam superhero film, ‘Minnal Murali‘, premieres on Netflix. A couple of new promos have just been released (for the movie) – one even featuring Yuvraj Singh. With the amount of social promos, interviews, lyrical music videos, film shorts, etc. that has been happening for a week or so, we are left with one burning question – Is ‘Minnal Murali’ heading down the path of no return with these promotions? Check out the latest Netflix India promo below:

The film has been heavily advertised by Netflix and while getting that much attention from the OTT conglomerate, especially for an Indian film is encouraging – history has proven that most heavily promoted films do not do well; and most Netflix content has had that problem since the coronavirus pandemic started. Examples of this include – the heavily anticipated Zack Snyder zombie apocalypse film, ‘Army of the Dead’, another South Indian feature, ‘Jagame Thadiram’, and of course, the aforementioned ‘Red Notice’.

While we do have hope that this film could fall in the category of other heavily advertised yet successful content like ‘The Witcher’, ‘Money Heist’ and surprisingly, ‘Tick Tick Boom’ – the overhyping of ‘Minnal Murali’ through social media has made us a little sceptical of the film’s chances in on the OTT platform. Well, that and the number of promos and interviews that feature Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph have been staggering. And we shouldn’t forget the seven lyrical song videos from the movie – all of them making their way to social media online.

Obviously, this is not enough to cause ‘Minnal Murali’ to “become” like ‘Red Notice’ – a decent, one-time watchable film that is a huge letdown; it does give off that feeling. Hopefully, we will be proved wrong in a few hours.

‘Minnal Murali’ will premiere on Netflix today, on 24th December 2021 at 12 PM.
