Is Prime Video Pissed at the Jana Nayagan Makers?

Jana Nayagan, starring Thalapathy Vijay, is stuck in a messy situation. The film was supposed to release on January 9, but it still has not received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification. Because of this delay, theatres, fans, and streaming platforms are all left waiting with no clear update.

The CBFC told the Madras High Court that the 14 cuts it suggested earlier were only an intermediate step and that the final decision is still pending. The court has now reserved its order, which means the film does not have a confirmed release date yet. Earlier, the court had also questioned why the makers announced a release date without securing certification first.

This delay is now causing problems for Prime Video, which reportedly bought the digital rights of the film for Rs 120 crore. According to reports, the platform is unhappy because the uncertainty is affecting its streaming schedule and contractual plans. There are even claims that Prime Video is considering legal action against KVN Productions if the issue continues. However, the OTT platform has said that it currently has no official information on the matter. It will be a really ugly situation if Prime Video proceeds with the legal action but let’s wait to see what actually happens.

Still, it is easy to see why Prime Video might be frustrated. Spending such a huge amount on a film that cannot even confirm a release date is risky. OTT platforms plan their content months in advance, and sudden delays can ruin their strategy.

For a film being promoted as Thalapathy Vijay’s final movie, the situation looks even more disappointing. Instead of building excitement, Jana Nayagan is now stuck in legal and certification trouble, leaving both fans and business partners feeling uncertain.
