Is Releasing Jr NTR’s Devara In Two Parts A Good Decision?

The much awaited Telugu film ‘Devara’ will be releasing in two parts. The movie has Jr NTR as the lead and it will be his first movie after the internationally hit ‘RRR’. Devara also stars Saif Ali Khan and Jhanhvi Kapoor.

The director of Devara, Koratala Siva has shared a video on social media clarifying that the movie will be releasing in two parts. The first part will hit the theaters on the 5th of April next year. According to the makers, regarding the grandeur and strength of the story, it will not do justice to the story if it is released as a single feature. The director says, the movie is split into two for a more immersive exploration of the characters and the plot.

However, it can be a clever strategy to monetize the project even more by distributing it into two films. Films like K.G.F and Baahubali have profited a lot in this format and now many films seem to follow this trend. With so many powerful actors in the cast list and the director’s claim of such a powerful screenplay, it is easy to guess that the movie will do some good business at the box office. Splitting it into halves with a good cliffhanger like Baahubali did, will be a wonderful strategy.

But if there is substance for a single two hour story and it is stretched to two grand big budget actioners, audiences will be nothing but bored and the strategy will inevitably fail. So, there is as much risk as a chance of good business.

While it was essential for movies like Ponniyin Selvan to be made in two parts (or even more if possible) we do not know much about the plot of Devara and how complex the storyline is to deserve two feature films.
