Is The Audience Ignoring Indian 2 In Theatres?

When Indian 2 was announced, it was greeted with wholesome reactions. However, this enthusiasm isn’t being reflected post-release as an underwhelming number of audience members are turning up to the theaters.

Indian 2 opened with a strong start: ₹25.6Cr on Friday, ₹18.2Cr on Saturday, and ₹15.35Cr on Sunday. But Monday, quite expectedly, saw a drop, with the ₹3.15Cr earnings being quite underwhelming.

So, why is Indian 2 not living up to the hype?

The major reason behind this big drop is that Indian 2 is too late to arrive, possibly a decade late. A film like this would have worked in the 2000s, but the audience has evolved, and they aren’t interested in it anymore.

The hype surrounding the trailer was nothing but a blast from the past, but the taste of the audience has changed. Additionally, the Hindi audience isn’t really watching it. Indian 2 is being crushed between two big titles such as Kalki 2898 AD and Bad Newz, and it needs a cool-off period.

Expecting anything less than excellence from Kamal Haasan is a crime, and he doesn’t let us commit it. Besides that, Siddharth nails his role. But the problem doesn’t exist in the cast but in the material. Lately, the Indian audience is intolerant of forced morality and moral policing.

In terms of drawing a global audience, it has definitely been successful, grossing ₹120Cr over these 4 days. However, it is dying down faster than anticipated. Though the film deals with a modern issue, the ways of tackling it don’t align with the new generation.

Furthermore, Netflix already confirming the OTT rights is making the film fall flat, especially with southern films that now show an extremely short OTT release window.
