The new Netflix comedy special Vir Das: Landing is getting pretty positive reviews and appreciation from fans. And its success can be compared to that of Zakir Khan’s ‘Tathastu’.
Vir Das: Landing premiered on Netflix on the 25th of December this year and it has garnered pretty nice views up until now. This is the fourth Netflix special from Vir Das after his ‘Abroad Understanding’, ‘For India’, ‘Losing It’. He also made an online lockdown comedy special for Netflix ‘Outside In’. After his contdoversial monologue ‘Two Indias’, it was not sure how his stand up shows will be accepted by his fans. He was heavily trolled after the monolgue but it seems like a good performance can win over all that.
The content for ‘Landing’ is similar to ‘Tathastu’ as both Zakir and Vir tend to tell their childhood stories in a very emotional and thought provoking way, and there is something more than mere comedy there.
Tathastu released on the 1st of December this year and had wide appreciation from fans and had proved Zakir Khan to be India’s Most favourite storyteller and comedian recently. The emotional angles of his childhood story stole the hearts of many people but ‘Landing’ is giving a really tough competition to ‘Tathastu’ now. Tathastu is one of the Amazon specials Zakir Khan did, like ‘Kaksha Gyarvi’ and ‘Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare’, all of which were liked very much by audiences.
The audiences of Zakir Khan and Vir Das are very different. Zakir Khan has does his shows in Hindi in his spectacular Desi style. Meanwhile, Vir Das prefers to do his shows in English and his shows are more focused on nom resident Indians. But the views and appreciation that ‘Landing’ is getting and the similarity in content makes it easier to compare between the two originals. It has only been one day and it seems that ‘Landing’ is a tough competition for ‘Tathastu’.
