Disney has held the Marvel franchise since December 31st, 2009, experiencing a tremendous rise and becoming synonymous with mass entertaining superhero movies. However, their rivals will now have a share of it.
Warner Bros. already has the rights to DC, and though they haven’t been the most successful in that area, the new direction regarding their future content might be exactly what they need right now. Warner Bros. is on their way to acquiring the rights to Alien Legion.
For comic book enthusiasts, it’s known that Alien Legion was initially published by Marvel Comics.
Set in Marvel’s Epic Comics (1983), “Alien Legion” explores Torie Montroc’s rebellion as he, the heir to a wealthy interstellar family, shuns his legacy. Opting for the Alien Legion’s lowest rank, he confronts the galaxy’s notorious beings, unfolding a narrative rich in interstellar intrigue and personal transformation. Initially published under Marvel’s “EPIC” banner, a creator-owned venture, it’s also noted as the longest-running title under the banner.
Tim Miller, director of the original Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate, is set to direct the project. The production team includes Don Murphy and Susan Montford from Angry Films, known for Transformers and Real Steel, serving as producers alongside Aaron Ryder.
No release window has been announced for the newest space opera franchise project, as critical details are yet to come. If things turn out perfectly, Disney will not only be competing against a Marvel Comics product, but their Star Wars will also face heavy competition.
Tune into Binged for further updates as Warner Bros. celebrates their long pursuit of Alien Legion.
