Isabela Merced is all set to star in John Green’s novel adaptation “Turtles All the Way Down” for New Line HBO Max. According to the Hollywood Reporter, actress-turned-director Hannah Marks is directing the project that was once set up at Fox 2000.
Turtles delves into the subject of mental sickness and anxiety by portraying the story of 17-year-old Aza Holmes, who is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend and a good student, all while sailing through an infinitely overwhelming invasive, unyielding imaginations on which she has no control.
When circumstances brings her back to her childhood crush, she had to encounter the primal questions about her potential for love, happiness, friendship and hope while she battle her mental illness.
“Turtles All the Way Down” will be helmed by Hannah Marks, based on a script written by the duo Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. They are best known for co-show running “This is Us” and penning down “Love, Simon” together. It was first on the line for adaptation by Fox 2000 in 2017, where Aptaker and Berger, as well as Marks, became involved during the process.
Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Isaac Klausner are the producers, previously they managed Green’s “The Fault in Our Stars”, which became a widespread sensation when it was bowed in theaters in 2014, and 2015’s “Paper Towns”. Green is the executive producer alongside Aptaker and Berger. The project is expected to begin shooting in April.
