2001’s biggest blockbuster returns for a sequel! The Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel starrer ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ was no less than a phenomenon when it released. Not only did the film break all box office records that year, but also emerged as the biggest blockbuster of its time, making the Anil Sharma directorial a milestone in the history of Indian cinema. There had been hints of a sequel to the film for quite some time and finally now, ‘Gadar 2’ is officially underway.
Filmmaker Anil Sharma and lead actors Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel took to social media earlier this morning, posting the caption, “The Katha continues” alongwith an update that an official announcement will follow tomorrow morning on Dussehra day. This makes it pretty clear that the lead actors are all set to reprise their roles and the story should most probably take off from where the story left us. Scores of fans have taken to social media to express their excitement over the venture.
Director Anil Sharma had earlier dropped hints of a sequel stating, “Not only the whole of India, but the entire world wants me to make Gadar 2, and I, too, want the same, everyone wants it. Who wouldn’t want it? People would want to see ten films with Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), he’s such a huge character. Even who played Jeete in it ( Utkarsh Sharma as Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s son), my son, he’s also grown big. But the point is Gadar 2 means a bomb of emotions, a bomb of drama, a bomb of grandeur – the day that bomb comes in my hand, I’ll burst it. The day Gadar 2 is announced, understand that I’ve got the bomb of emotions, drama and grandeur, but I won’t announce it just like that because the legacy of Gadar can’t be tarnished just like that.”
We went back to actress Ameesha Patel’s Twitter post on 22nd September, which hints that talks of the sequel were finally taking shape. Well, does this mean that director Anil Sharma is all set to launch his son too, with the sequel of ‘Gadar‘? Well, it’s only a day’s wait. We will know for sure tomorrow!
