Just as audience views about films and series differ greatly, so do opinions about trailers. While some find them incredibly annoying and only a means to delay the screening of the film they’ve been eagerly waiting for for months, many also find them intriguing. One thing that is rarely ever done within trailers, however, is acknowledging the viewers who are watching them.
Astonishingly, Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming feature ‘Jackpot!’, a Paul Feig directorial set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on August 15, does just that. Starring Awkwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu in a chaotic, fast-paced comedic thriller, the plot is set in Los Angeles in 2030.
It follows Katie, a struggling actress who wins the lottery without realizing that California grants everyone else until sundown to murder the winner and claim the prize for themselves, without facing any consequences. Helping Katie to stay alive is an amateur lottery protection agent, who earns a portion of the prize, if she survives.
The awkwardly paired yet comedically compatible duo Awkwafina and Cena seem to promise us a hilariously crazy, edge-of-the-seat action experience. The film has also adopted a clever marketing antic. It includes a giveaway wherein one lucky winner gets access to free Buffalo Wild Wings food for a decade!
