Jagame Thandhiram And Elite Top Netflix India’s Top 10 Lists!

Despite the film’s poor “first outing”, ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ topped Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Films List for June 20th 2021. Spanish thriller drama ‘Elite’, which released its 4th season on 18th June 2021, tops Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular TV Series List for the same date. Surprisingly, both lists have a lot more Indian and International content than Hollywood features and featurettes, making this weekend’s list quite entertaining. Check out both lists down below:

Netflix India’s Top 10 Movies:

1. Jagame Thandhiram

This Tamil action thriller may have topped the list but with many other films on this very list making a name for themselves, we expect one of them to dethrone this Dhanush Starrer by this weekend. The movie follows a carefree, dangerous gangster who is recruited overseas by a mobster for a job. When tasked with taking down the mobster’s rival, the gangster faces a moral conundrum.

2. Fatherhood

This Kevin Hart movie is based on the true events that happened in the life of American author, Matthew Logelin. The film follows a father who to bring up his baby girl on his own after the unexpected death of his wife, a day after childbirth.

3. Skater Girl

This Indian Skateboarding film managed to grab the third spot. We follow a young teenage girl who discovers a life-changing passion for skateboarding.

4. Ma

This 2019 released small budget thriller follows Sue-Ann, a middle aged woman, who allows teenagers to party in her house. Soon, the young adults discover her ulterior motives.

5. Fifty Shades of Grey

This 2015 released erotic thriller makes the top 5 this week. A sexually inexperienced college senior, Anastasia Steele, meets the enigmatic Mr. Grey and starts to have sex with him and lives out his sexual proclivities.

6. Wish Dragon

This Chinese American animated movie follows a young teenage boy, Din, who wishes to reconnect with his childhood best friend. He meets a wish-granting dragon, who shows him a world of infinite possibilities.

7. Rurouni Kenshin: The Final

The fourth instalment of the live-action ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ film series, we follow Kenshin and his allies as they face off their strongest enemy yet, Kenshin’s former brother-in-law, Enishi Yukishiro and his minions.

8. 365 Days

This Polish erotic thriller follows Laura, a sales director, as she gets kidnapped by Massimo, a member of the Sicilian Mafia family.

9. Sarbath

A Tamil comedy-drama, ‘Sarbath’ follows an IT professional as he travels to his brother’s wedding. The wedding gets called off, but he ends up falling for the former bride.

10. Awake

In an alternate universe, a mysterious catastrophe wipes out all electronics and the human’s ability to sleep. Scientists have to race against time to find a cure for their insomnia, before its ill-effects eliminate the entire human race.

Netflix India’s Top 10 TV Series:

1. Elite

The highly anticipated Spanish series follow three working-class teenagers who enrol into an exclusive private school in Spain. They clash with the wealthy students in the school, which eventually lead to a murder.

2. Lupin

The second season of the modern retelling of a classic French story about Arsene Lupin, the world-renowned gentleman thief and master of disguise released more than week back, but its attention in India is still going strong.

3. Sweet Tooth

In a post-apocalyptic world, a boy who is half-human, half-deer looks for a fresh start with his new blunt protector.

4. Lucifer

Still going strong, despite the second part of Season 5 of the urban fantasy series releasing almost a month back, we follow Lucifer Morningstar, who has decided to come to Earth to retire, after abandoning his throne in Hell.

5. Friends

A series that will probably never leave this list; follow six close friends as they navigate their lives in New York from the mid-90s to the mid-2000s.

6. Money Heist

Many people seem to be re-watching this much-beloved web series in preparation for the premiere of its fifth and final season, which will drop in September. The TV series follows a group of thieves as they attempt to pull off the largest heist in recorded history – to print billions of Euros in the Royal Mint of Spain.

7. Katla

Themed around the Icelandic active volcano, Katla, this series is set in an alternate universe when the gigantic volcano erupted. Set a year after its eruption, the people living near this volcano, starts to notice some very unique and supernatural things.

8. The Blacklist

With the season finale for the spy-thriller series expected to drop tomorrow (23rd June 2021), the popularity behind this web series is understandable. We follow wanted FBI fugitive Reddington, who mysteriously surrenders himself to the FBI. He offers to help them in capturing deadly criminals, who are unknown to the FBI. His sole condition – he will only work with FBI’s newest profiler, Elizabeth Keen.

9. Elite Short Stories: Carla Samuel

This mini-series is expected to act as a mini season for the current ranked one series on this list, ‘Elite’, where they show us more of the relationships between the main character, which will bridge the gap between seasons 3 and 4 of this brilliant series. There will be 4 stories in total, with 3 episodes each for focusing on their story. ‘Elite Short Stories: Carla Samuel’ is the most popular among these mini-stories, currently.

10. Jujutsu Kaisen

No TV series list is complete without an anime series, and we have a new up-and-comer on this list which should break into the top 5, looking at its popularity trajectory – Jujutsu Kaisen. Based on the manga series of the same name, we follow a dying high schooler Yuri, who decides to hunt down and consume the remaining 19 fingers of a deadly curse so it can die with him.
